Show Closing Party at the Vine and Bean

Thanks to everyone who came to support us at the Vine and Bean Cafe last night! Everyone was so complimentary and James played some excellent music that really livened up the party.
The show will be up until the end of October so feel free to stop by, grab some amazing Currant chocolate cookies, and take a look at some island-themed art created by Claire Mojher, Julia Kuo, and myself.

Being a personal fan of Lilly's AMAZING chocolates, I am extremely excited to be a part of this.

Straight from the Crate

I'm participating in another group show, this time at Shoparooni. The opening is this Friday! Hope to see you all there!

Here's some info about the show:

"Once again, NYC transplant and general Cleveland do-gooder Keith Corcoran brings together 33 1/3 of the hottest artists on record with his latest curatorial endeavor STRAIGHT FROM THE CRATE.

Using old vinyl records originally destined for the trash as their canvas, the participating artists have created a diverse collection of traditional and contemporary art.

This show runs from June 26 through July 26 at the very hip Shoparooni Gallery Annex in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District and features artists from Cleveland, LA, NY, Arizona and Australia.

In an effort to take some of the mystery out of art buying, this show, unlike others, will be "cash-and-carry," meaning if you see something you like, you can take your new-favorite-artwork home with you that night, straight off the wall!

"The overall goal of the show," says curator Keith Corcoran, "is to put high-quality one-of-a-kind artwork in the hands of the average citizen at a price that won't break the bank." "

Illustrated music card in stores

Here's a card I illustrated that plays 'Somebody's Watching Me'. Of course, since I did such a good job at the stick figures the first time, it's only natural to continue developing those skills.

Ninja cats!

I'm so happy my ninja cats idea made it to stores. I consider it to be one of the highlights of my career, for sure. (Second only to the stick figure card I did last year)

p.s. it plays "Kung Fu Fighting" when you open it!

Here's a portion of what I'm doing for the ALL HANDS ON DECK skate show at American Greetings.
(Sorry for the blurry photo, I'll try to get a better picture when it's done)

Man it's been so long since I've painted with acrylics!

BazBiz!

Thanks to everyone who visited my booth at Bazaar Bizarre!! I really enjoyed talking to everyone and appreciate all the kind words.
Thanks also to Great Lakes Design Collaborative for the great write up!

Oh also I realized yesterday that my website is down--really bad timing considering I just handed out a ton of business cards with that address on it. Hopefully it will be up soon (if I can figure out how to fix it)

My First commissioned family portrait

It's done!! I really enjoyed working on it even though getting the likenesses down was extremely difficult...having such an adorable family to work with helps a lot though! They really are so adorable I can't stand it.

Poster for Color Group

I was asked to design a Shag inspired poster for the Color group at work. I had fun experimenting with a different style, even if it's not entirely my own...

Dr Sketchy's!

This is a bit belated, but I attended a Dr Sketchy's session at the Beachland Ballroom around Halloween and had an awesome time. I'm definitely going to do it again.
Here are a few of my sketches...I am more than a bit rusty, and the alcohol didn't exactly help...

Robot Dance

I illustrated this sound card for Target, planned by the lovely Julia Kuo.
I think this is my first real illustrated card (besides the stick figures, but I'm not really counting that).
Check it out in Target if you're there!

Frank-the-Wannabe-Hipster-Yeti

I think I can finally say Frank is complete, at least in the physical sense. He's for the Midwest Plushform Show at Shoparooni this Friday which sounds like it's going to be pretty rad! I've seen many many pieces that blow mine out of the water.

Frank's story:
"Does he laugh a little too loudly at parties? Is he slightly larger, hairier, and smellier than normal? Chances are you've met Frank, the wannabe hipster yeti."
*You can't see it in this photo, but he's got a Pabst in a paper bag in his other hand :)

Bazaar Bizarre

I am very happy to have gotten in to the Bazaar Bizarre craft show coming up in December! I'm gonna be spending some late nights getting things ready so I hope to have some cool stuff to sell.

Here's the official info for those of you interested in going:

Bazaar Bizarre Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio branch of this beloved national indie craft fair (with branches in Boston, San Francisco, Austin, LA and more) is returning for its 4th annual show -- the biggest and best one yet!

With over 75 vendors from NEO and surrounding states, more than double the number of previous years, Bazaar Bizarre is a one-stop-shop for all your holiday gift needs -- there's even onsite gift wrapping this year! Buy local, and support local artists!

* Saturday December 13th from noon to 9:00 p.m.
* Sunday December 14th from noon to 6:00 p.m.

This year the show returns to the building complex (and former home of 1300 Gallery) where it all began: 78th Street Studios: 1300 W. 78th St to 1305 W. 80th St., north parking lot, north entrance -- accessible from W. 78th OR W 80th St.

Show organizer Shannon Okey, a nationally-known crafts author and speaker, says "If you want something truly unique for that special someone this year, skip the mall and go DIY with Bazaar Bizarre!" As the show moves into its fifth year in Cleveland, it continues to attract a wide range of amazing artists who offer something for everyone.

Seagulls

I designed this t-shirt for Satchel's Pizza in Gainesville, FL. Check out the place if you're over there, it looks pretty cool and they were very easy to work with.
I've been doing more freelance work for American Greetings that I can't show yet, but I'll let you know when they're out in stores. Remember, American Greetings says it best. Don't forget.

In other news, I will be participating in the Baltimore Comic Con September 27-28. I'm hoping to have a new shirt design for it, so cross your fingers that I will have it done before then (eek!). My good friends Claire Mojher and John DeLucca will be joining me to sell wonderful things.
